Date: 6/27/2018

Members: Ryan Blazer, Darlene Broom, Elizabeth Horin, Corazon Lomeli, Keith Oddie (via telephone), Joni Ricks-Oddie (via telephone), and Dan Pressburg

7:12PM Welcome DPNA Neighborhood Association (DPNA) Executive Board Meeting – Meeting called by President Dan Pressburg

Good News: Tour DeForest Wetlands

Suggestions for tour: Consider doing DPNA tour and make it a fundraiser. Are we allowed to charge for it? Yes, we are as we are a not-for-profit. Consider doing them once a month, using brochures already created, and train docents to do them. We just have to get it started. Dan is volunteering to do the first set of tours.

Camp Fire is slated to do tours as well but they are doing it for free.

Clean Up at Wetlands similar to Beach Clean Ups but that is likely to be challenging

Trying to get Clean Team from the BID to come up

Consider getting CSWs to do it but need a trained individual overseeing

Without adequate lighting there may be potential for issues; considering doing solar lighting in some sections

7:27PM Old Business

Jazz Fest – Space was supposed to be by food trucks by skate park. Food vendors including DPNA were closer to the stage. In future, we need to make sure we are where we are supposed

to be so we get adequate food traffic and maximize our fundraising. Funds raised was not as good due to poor foot traffic.

People did not like pre-cooked brats. Need to be particular on the type of dogs that we get, especially with regard to the veggie dogs. People wanted to know what the base is for veggie dogs.

Used more ice this year. A lot was used for drinks.

Issues with Walmart for food donations. Easier to go online as opposed to go to the actual store.

A lot of folks brought their own food and were grilling. Not allowed to bring own grills into the park. There were also illegal vendors. It hurt sales. Need to address with Council Office and help them to enforce.

Need to contact 4th District Supervisor Rep Herlinda Chico from Janice Hahn’s office to get update that needs to occur quarterly; need to put list of item requests from them

Working to get Mike Gibson to speak in July; need to create list for requests

7:58PM New Business

Chili Cook-Off – need to start promoting; reach out to cooks from last year; do social media; include in newsletter

Motion to design and purchase a banner for Chili Cook-Off – don’t have permission to put up banner but will ask as being contingent consider Veronica to do it and have her design a new flier – first, second, and approved by all

Need to go through supplies to determine what is needed, such as tasting cups, spoons, water, etc. . .

Need to reach out to Charlie on Poetry Slam as well as any equipment needed

Consider having additional volunteers; need a designated greeter for the Chili Cook-Off

Need to confirm judges – Rex confirmed; Dan to contact Nannette Barragan and Mike Gibson; Joni will reach out to Camp Fire folks to be judges

Need to have people back up people if they are unavailable; Dan will happy to learn to do mail chimp and web to help cover Ryan; Elizabeth will partner with Joni for social media (FB, Instagram, and Nextdoor, etc….)

Newsletter to be sent out early next week – ideally before 4th of July
